Roedd hon yn eglwys ‘clas’ ganoloesol yn wreiddiol, gyda rhan isaf y tŵr a’r drws dwyreiniol yn dyddio o’r 12fed ganrif a charreg rud wythonglog fach yn dyddio o’r 14eg ganrif. Cafodd y rhan fwyaf o’r eglwys ei hailadeiladu ym 1850, ac eithrio’r tŵr, sy’n cynnwys un gloch o gyfnod cynharach a grëwyd yn y 18fed ganrif. Mae gan borth y fynwent wrth fynedfa’r fynwent waith cerrig sy’n dyddio o 1755.

Adeiladwyd yr eglwys o waith maen rwbel gyda gorchudd carreg rydd, copin cerrig, a tho llechi. Mae ei thŵr gorllewinol bellach yn gartref i’r festri, ac mae’r rhan uchaf yn cynnwys agoriadau dellt ar bob wyneb. I fyny ar ochr ddwyreiniol y tŵr ceir cwt clychau Sanctus un talcen. Cynllun yr eglwys yw tŵr, corff yr eglwys, y gangell a phortsh deheuol.

Mae tref farchnad Llannerchymedd wedi ei lleoli ar reilffordd cangen sydd bellach wedi gau. Fodd bynnag, yn y 19eg ganrif, roedd yn lleoliad pwysig ar gyfer cynhyrchu esgidiau, gyda 250 o gryddion yn gweithio yn y dref. Mae heddiw’n ardal dawel braf i fyw ynddi gyda chysylltiadau da â’r trefi eraill ar yr ynys.

Cymraeg

Saint Mary’s is located in the centre of the small rural town of Llanerchymedd at the junction of the B5112 and B5111, about 6 mile south of Amlwch and 7 miles northwest of Llangefni.

This was originally a medieval ‘clas’ church, with the lower part of the tower and the east doorway dating from the 12th century and a small octagonal gritstone dating from the 14th century. Most of the church was rebuilt in 1850, with the exception of the tower, which features an earlier single bell cast in the 18th century. The lychgate at the entrance to the churchyard has stonework dating from 1755.

The church was built of rubble masonry with a freestone dressing, stone copings, and a slate roof. Its west tower now houses the vestry, and the upper stage has louvred openings on all faces. Up on the east side of the tower is a single-gabled Sanctus bellcote. The layout of the chuch is a tower, nave, and chancel with a south porch.

The market town Llanerchymedd is located on a branch railway line which is now closed. However, in the 19th century, it was an important location for the manufacture of shoes, with 250 cobblers working in the town. Today is a nice quiet area to live with good links to the other towns on the island.
